Kevin Magee, Degree 4

Kevin started his martial training in 1988 when at university in Belfast. After initial training in Wado Ryu Karate and Judo, he started to train Aikido in 1990. He trained with Aikido Instructors in Ireland and England before going to Japan in 1994 to study with Morihiro Saito sensei (9th Dan). Kevin intensively trained under Saito sensei for 6 years, leaving Japan after been awarded the rank of 4th Dan in Aikido from Saito sensei. He also travelled extensively within Japan and USA to train with many famous Aikido instructors and has taught Aikido in Japan, USA and Europe.

In 1998, after reading the book "Cheng Hsin – The Principles of Effortless Power", Kevin went to a seminar taught by the author, Peter Ralston. The ability and teachings of Master Ralston completely transformed Kevin's experience of martial arts. Ralston's mastery was outstanding and his emphasis on teaching skill and the principles of effortless power and effective interaction was like switching on a light. Initially, Kevin tried to incorporate the Cheng Hsin principles into his Aikido training but then decided to start over and devote himself completely to training Cheng Hsin.

In 2002, Master Ralston opened up a Cheng Hsin center in Texas. Kevin stayed for 6 months in 2001/2002 to help build the dojo, train and participate in the first live-in month-long training seminar, which is now an annual event. In 2004 Kevin completed the first 7 month Cheng Hsin Apprentice Program, and returned in 2006, 2008 to complete further martial Apprentice programs. In 2011, Kevin graduated the first 7 month Consciousness Apprentice Program with Master Ralston in Texas. He currently lives in Cardiff, teaching weekly Cheng Hsin classes. He also teaches Cheng Hsin weekend workshops in addition to continuing his studies with Master Ralston at the Cheng Hsin center in Texas and around the world.
